Alexander Family Star-Palm Springs Walk of Stars
Dear Vista Las Palmas Neighbors,
You may not be aware of it, but all of us have something in common. All of the homes in Vista Las Palmas were built by the Alexander Construction Company. The company was founded by George Alexander and his son, Robert. They were responsible for building several residential developments in the Palm Springs area in the late '50s and early '60s. Last year marked the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Vista Las Palmas. The Alexanders were not just successful homebuilders; they were also an integral part of the social and charitable community of Palm Springs and, as such, they helped put our city on the map.
Sadly, on November 14, 1965 George, his wife Mildred, Robert and his wife Helene, all perished in a plane crash along with two others. The Alexander Construction Company ceased operations after this tragic event. It was the end of an era.
To honor this extraordinary family, David Hyams, a Palm Springs resident, is spearheading a drive to fund a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. The Vista Las Palmas Neighborhood Organization, along with other neighborhoods built by the Alexanders, is supporting this project.
The Alexander family star will be located in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center on South Palm Canyon Drive. The dedication ceremony will take place on February 14, 2020 and will be open to the public. We expect to see you there!
