Penny Hirschman - Board At Large

Penny has been in Palm Springs since 2003 when she and her late husband relocated here to live with and care for his mother. Penny taught at elementary school and three universities; was a reading specialist; and worked for Houghton-Mifflin publishing company. She has served on the board of local, state and national reading associations.

Penny was one of the founding board members of American Literacy Corporation, an organization that annually recognizes and rewards California K-8 teachers and certified reading support educators or librarians who significantly increase the literacy levels of their students. She served as ALC president for eleven years and now serves as President Emeritus.

Penny is pleased to be part of the VLPNO board and even more thrilled to call Vista Las Palmas home.
